Gastric Pain: Treatment and Prevention Tips

Gastric pain is sometimes called dyspepsia. The Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Singapore General Hospital(SGH) provides treatment advice and prevention tips.

 GASTRIC PAIN  symptoms can be reduced by abstaining from smoking.
Continued from previous page.
Treatment for common gastric pain
The gastric pain that many Singaporeans experience in their upper abdomen is most commonly non-ulcer dyspepsia.

“Non-ulcer dyspepsia, also known as functional dyspepsia, is the term used for gastric pain when all organic causes have been ruled out,” says doctors from the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Singapore General Hospital (SGH), a member of the SingHealth group.

Non-ulcer dyspepsia treatment

As stress is suspected to be a cause of non-ulcer dyspepsia, doctors may prescribe low doses of antidepressants and anxiety-relieving drugs to help alleviate symptoms.

Medication to reduce stomach acid is also often given. There are two types of stomach acid-reducing medicines:

H2 blockers, or histamine-2 blockers, which include cimetidine, rantidine, nizatidine and famotidine
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which include omeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole, and esomeprazole.
Although both work in different ways, they help lower the amount of acid that the stomach produces.

Peptic ulcer treatment

If tests reveal that your gastric pain is due to a peptic ulcer, your doctor is likely to prescribe drugs to reduce stomach acid, as described above.

If your ulcer is related to an H. pylori infection, you may also receive short-term triple therapy, consisting of one acid-reducing agent and two antibiotics. Generally, triple therapy successfully eradicates the bacteria in up to 90 per cent of cases.

6 tips to prevent gastric pain
Whether your gastric pain is diagnosed as non-ulcer dyspepsia or due to a more specific cause, making some simple lifestyle changes can lower your risk of experiencing gastric pain symptoms:

Eat smaller but more frequent meals. If you often suffer from indigestion, have five to six smaller meals a day, rather than three square meals.
Eat on time and avoid skipping meals. This will accustom your stomach to release its gastric juices only during at mealtimes and not erratically.
Consume less irritating foods. Cutting down on spicy, acidic, fried or fatty foods helps reduce gastric symptoms and allows your stomach to heal.
Drink alcohol in moderation. Excessive amounts of alcohol may weaken your stomach’s protective lining, making you more susceptible to ulcers.
Quit smoking. Smoking increases the production of stomach acid, slows down healing and increases your risk of getting stomach cancer.
Better manage your stress. High stress increases the production of gastric juices in your stomach. Exercise regularly and adopt relaxation activities such as yoga to keep your stress in check.

Dangling conversations

It had been lucidly evident from the onset that we were contradictory not just in nature but in essence too, black and white, bliss and malady
Contradictions were copious yet it was uncanny how and why we were united like brothers. Our talks were sporadic and succinct and it never wore us down. We would skim through our own conversations yet it was poignant as a morning cigarette can be
Mar 19, 2017- “….with certitude, Dai, I confide in you that I shall commit suicide at some point of time, plausibly at twenty seven, not because I would get all depressed or heartbroken but that, I would feel enough of love. Maybe too much love will kill me,” I said, rather dryly.
He laughed and argued his case against me. He never said that life was beautiful and it ought to be lived till one’s cough ran dry but there was always a sense that it ought to be lived beautifully. It had been lucidly evident from the onset that we were contradictory not just in nature but in essence too, black and white, bliss and malady but we were there for each other and I always felt we were destined to meet, not I for him but he for me.
He was my senior on academic grounds but he was also senior in life as a whole. He always did his hair to the left, meticulously and his narrow Sherpa eyes always gleamed, it was uncanny but I thought it always gave life to everything. His brusque skin evinced that he was made to conquer and perish in the unfathomable crevasses of the Himalayas.

Swayambhunath got it's name "Monkey Temple"

Swayambhunath got it's name "Monkey Temple" because Manjushree, the bodhisattva of wisdom and learning was raised on the hill which the Swayambhunath Temple now stands on. He grew his hair long and head lice grew. It is said that the head lice transformed into the monkeys that now live around the temple. The temple underwent a major renovation in 2010 which included over 20kg of gold to re-gild the dome. The Anantapur shrine (one of the large white chedis) was destroyed during the April 25th earthquake in Nepal. The monastery at the back of the stupa was also damaged. However the vast majority of Swayambhunath survived. Details can be found in my guidebook below. There are a couple of very small local eateries at the bottom of the temple steps. The monkeys found at Swayambhunath are Rhesus Macaques. Swayambhunath is easily pronounced " Swahi - an - boon - eth "

What happens if we keep phone for charging whole night?

if mobile keep in charge whole night is this dangerous?
3 Answers
Your battery charges to 100% and then stops charging.
Well on the other way around if you pick up your device after whole night's charging and notice its warm, you might consider not doing it anymore.
The problem is that devices are equipped with circuit that would prevent charging when the meter turns 100%, the wire is cut. But, if you notice that warmness of your device this means that the device is storing up heat and that might swell up your battery, erode its normal functioning eventually shortening it's battery life and backup.
Just make sure your smartphone never gets too warm, that depresses the battery.

Misuse of mobile phones

Mobile phone is one of the wonderful inventions of science. This incredible technology has made our life easy. But the negative uses of mobile phone may bring many troubles to our life. We will not find one mobile user who has not received unexpected calls from unknown numbers. A group of mentally sick people find entertainment in making such calls. Girls are the main target of these unknown callers. If we contact the mobile operators, they suggest that we should avail their call blocking service for a certain fee. But there is no getting away because they call from different numbers. It seems that these unknown callers help the operators make more profit. If we seek help from the law enforcing agencies, they show indifference.
The harmful uses of mobile phone are also misleading our teenagers. Parents should consider the age of their children before buying them mobile phones. The latest addition is Internet on mobile phones. Now our teenagers are prone to use Internet on mobile for downloading adult songs and videos. They may involve themselves in different types of crimes. Parents need to strengthen the family ties and teach moral values to their children. They should make sure that their kids use mobile phones in a proper way.
Our mobile operators are selling SIM cards without verifying customers' identity properly and that leads to various mobile related crimes. It has become an essential tool for organised crimes. Our government should make a strong law to compel mobile operators not to sell SIM cards to customers without proper verification. Our electronic media shows programmes on many irregularities and problems of our society; they should make programmes on this issue too.

How to Be a Good Husband

So you got married and became a man of vows. All those promises you made to your wife really mean something now, so it's time to start walking the walk. Fortunately, being a good husband isn't impossible. It's about following your heart, your conscience, and acting on your love for your wife. These simple steps, if taken seriously, can help lead you and your better half to a brighter future.
Help Being a Good Husband
Being a Man of Principle
Be a gentleman, if she'll let you. Most, not all, women find the idea of a gentleman sweet and endearing. If your wife is that kind of lass, get ready to bust out your most chivalrous self. Think 17th century manners, or thereabouts:
Kiss her hello and goodbye.
Take her heavy shopping bags for her.
Of course, there's always the chance that she doesn't want you treating her in a gentlemanly way. If she doesn't, don't take it personally. Continue being sweet to her, even if you don't give her special treatment.

Be respectful. Respect is an act of understanding. Understand that your wife is an independent, different person, and that she may not want to do the exact same thing as you, even though your interests are usually aligned. Here are four examples of ways you can be respectful of your wife:
Keep your promises. Do what you say you'll do. If you tell her you're going to do the dishes, don't wimp out and then make excuses while she takes over your responsibility.
Be on time. If you say you're going to be somewhere at a certain time — say, pick up your kid at daycare — be there. Your wife's time is just as valuable as yours. Respect it.
Stop assuming. Don't just assume that she'll do something because she's your wife or a woman. Establish good lines of communication instead. Learn how to ask for a favor.
Listen to what she's saying. Don't pretend to listen — actually listen. Sometimes, the only thing we want is a good listener or a shoulder to lean on. Let her talk and be absorbed in what she's saying.
Never lie. Get in the habit of telling the truth. Ask yourself how you would feel if you found out your wife was keeping anything but a birthday secret from you. Always tell her where you are going if she wants to know. Tell her who you are with. Tell her what your motivations are, even if you think they're petty. Being open and never lying establishes great verbal communication, which is at the heart of all great relationships.

Acid attack survivors redefine beauty in B’desh fashion show

Teen model Shonali Khatun strutted the catwalk as the audience cheered at a fashion show in Bangladesh’s capital.
But Shonali is no ordinary model, and this was no ordinary show.
She and the 14 other models are survivors of acid attacks, common in this South Asian country, where spurned lovers or disgruntled family members sometimes resort to hurling skin-burning acid at their victims.
The fashion show, held Tuesday night in Dhaka and attended by fashion lovers, rights activists and diplomats including the US ambassador to Bangladesh, aimed to redefine the notion of beauty while calling attention to the menace of such attacks.
For 14-year-old Shonali, the event was nothing short of empowering. She was attacked just days after she was born amid a property dispute involving her parents, and was left with burn scars on her face and arms. She spent nearly three years in a hospital and underwent eight operations. Her attacker has never been caught.
“I am so happy to be here,” she said. “One day I want to be a physician.”

The models, including three men, walked the catwalk, dancing and singing and showcasing woven handloom Bangladeshi designs. The show was choreographed by local designer Bibi Russel.
Organisers said they hoped to highlight the fact that acid victims, too often overlooked, are a vital part of society. They deliberately chose to hold the event on the eve of International Women’s Day.

“We are here today to show their inner strength, as they have come a long way,” said Farah Kabir, country director of ActionAid Bangladesh, which organised the show. “I often take inspiration from them. Their courage is huge.”
Bangladesh has struggled to deal with acid attacks in recent decades, and has instituted harsh punishments for the perpetrators, including the death penalty. The country has also trained doctors to treat such sensitive cases and attempted to control the sale of acid, but has failed to eliminate the scourge entirely.
In 2016, some 44 people were attacked with acid in Bangladesh — an annual number that has remained relatively stable.
“I am ashamed of having such things in the country,” Kabir said. “Unfortunately, in Bangladesh we do have acid victims because of either gender discrimination or violence, or because of greed. And we want to remind everyone the kind of injustice that has been meted out to them.”

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology notes that some people experience an allergic response to the protein in the rubber. This is very rare. The symptoms of latex allergy can vary in presentation and severity, ranging from sneezing, runny nose, hives, itching or flushing to more severe signs and symptoms, such as wheezing, swelling, dizziness, and light-headedness. In certain instances, latex allergies can invoke anaphylaxis, a life-threatening condition. It is best advised for people who have latex allery to switch to synthetic condoms. Acquiring other STDs: Condoms are proven highly effective against HIV and reduce the risk of other diseases, such as syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and HPV. However, they do not afford protection against seksually transmitted diseases that can affect the outer layers of the skin, such as scabies infections and molluscum contagiosum. The American Social Health Association notes that although condoms can reduce the risk of genital herpes, they don’t protect every part of the skin in which the herpes virus can asymptomatically shed and be transmitted to an infected sekual partner. Here are seven signs of STDs that you should know about.
Risk of pregnancy: Condoms are mostly used to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. However, when used correctly condoms can only guarantee 98 percent protection and if used in an improper manner 15 out of 100 women get pregnant. So if you are using a condom to prevent an unwanted pregnancy be sure that you use a fresh piece and know how to use it right. Condoms that have crossed there expiry date becomes brittle and could break during intercourse. Here are 11 ways to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
Risk to partner’s health: Two doctors from Dallas, Texas claim that the male condom can cause cancer in the woman. The culprit, they claim, is talc, a dry lubricant used on the surface of condoms. Studies have linked talc to ovarian cancer and to fibrosis on fallopian tubes, thus making the woman infertile. Drs Candace Kasper and P J Chandler point out that the American Food and Drug Administration has recognized the dangers when talc has been applied to surgical gloves, and so banned the practice, but still allowed the substance to be coated on condoms. Their observations have been reported in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

High court rules for first time: Husbands can’t rape wives

MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court has reminded husbands that “marriage is not a license” for them to rape their wives.
In a ruling tackling for the first time a marital rape case, the high court first division affirmed a Court of Appeals decision that in turn upheld a Cagayan de Oro City Regional Trial Court’s conviction of a man for raping his wife in 2002.
The division affirmed the man’s conviction on two counts of rape.
“Husbands do not have property rights over their wives’ bodies. physical relation, albeit within the realm of marriage, if not consensual is rape,” said the ruling penned by Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes.

He said this was in keeping with the Anti-Rape Law of 1997.

“Interestingly, no documented case on marital rape has ever reached this Court until now,” the ruling said.

Form of Physically violence
The decision stemmed from a 1999 case filed by a woman who accused her husband, to whom she had been married for 24 years, of raping her on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17, 1998.
In its 41-page ruling, the division said the accused’s contention that his case was not an ordinary rape case and that the standards of determining the presence of consent or lack of should be adjusted “failed to muster legal and rational merit.”
It said that right now rape as a form of sexual violence exists within marriage.
“A man who penetrates his wife without her consent or against her will commits sexual violence upon her,” the ruling said.
Credible testimony
The high court also said the argument of the accused “arbitrarily discriminates against married rape victims over unmarried rape victims because it withholds from married women raped by their husbands the penal redress equally granted by law to all rape victims.”
“A marriage license should not be viewed as a license for a h

Barack Obama vowed to speak up if Donald Trump threatens core US values and reassured

Americans "we'll be okay" Wednesday, in a political swansong after eight years as president.
During his final press conference and public appearance before Trump's inauguration on Friday, the 55-year-old said he was stepping back but would return to the political breach in extremis.
"I want to do some writing, I want to be quiet a little bit and not hear myself talk so darn much. I want to spend precious time with my girls," he said.
But, he added, any effort to enforce systematic discrimination, erode voting rights, muzzle the press or round up young immigrants, would cause him to speak out.
"There's a difference between that normal functioning of politics and certain issues or certain moments where I think our core values may be at stake."
During the campaign Trump vowed to ban Muslims from entering the United States and deport millions of illegal immigrants, many of them Latin Americans long-settled in the country.
His strident tone since winning election and the contrast with eight years of Obama's liberal agenda has given the country something akin to political whiplash.
Can't do it alone
Trump's supporters are euphoric that political business as usual may be over, while his detractors are fearful of a mercurial and untested leader.
Against this backdrop, the traditionally mild-mannered ritual of a final presidential press conference was given added political weight.
Obama was in turn resolute and reassuring. "I have offered my best advice," he said, describing his conversations with the president-elect.
"I can tell you that -- this is something I have told him -- that this is a job of such magnitude that you can't do it by yourself. You are enormously reliant on a team."
He also warned Trump to think through foreign policy decisions that may be domestically popular, like his vow to move the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
"It's a volatile environment. What we have seen in the past is when some unilateral moves are made that speak to some of the core issues and sensitivities of either side, that can be explosive."
Asked about Trump's stated intention to seek a thaw with the Kremlin, Obama stopped short of criticizing his successor -- but noted that his own overtures to Russia were frustrated by an "adversarial spirit" when Vladimir Putin regained the presidency.
He also defended his decision -- slammed by Trump's Republicans -- to commute the sentence of transgender army private Chelsea Manning, jailed for 35 years for handing classified US documents to WikiLeaks.

Things You Shouldn't Do For Your Man If You Want To Maintain Respect And Cultivate Healthy Habits In Your Relationship

In the quest to maintain a happy relationship, women sometimes tend to go out of their way to please their partner. Although their intent is often good, going as far as sacrificing your happiness in the name of love can come back to haunt the balance of your relationship.
Sacrificing your happiness in relationship
You want to be perceived as an equal to your partner, which doesn’t mean mothering him or pampering him all the time.

However, helping him or 'being there' during his hour of need is necessary, which is different from wrecking the relationship by going overboard in doing so.
Here are 6 things you should avoid overdoing for you man:
Quit trying to solve all his problems
Solving problems for your man
Whether your man has financial woes or workplace issues, avoid trying to rescue him from all his troubles. Listening, guiding, and being a helping hand are all okay to some extent, but going all out and extending your hand can make your man indecisive and helpless to take on responsibility in the future.
Showering him with expensive gifts all the time
It’s better to gift each other gifts of equal value in a relationship. Gifting you man more expensive gifts than he can afford to gift back to you might end up making him feel awkward and bad about himself even. What’s worse is that an immoral person can use you for what he wants in such a situation.
Avoid being a shoulder for him to cry at will
Men don’t fall in love or respect women who only feel sorry for them and become a shoulder for them to cry on. The fact that your relationship is deep and fulfilling only because you are unconditionally there for him emotionally and spiritually is a misnomer.

The real secret of happiness in a relationship lies in supporting and inspiring your husband to reach greater heights.
